Privacy notice

Version 2026-08-24, last updated 2026-08-24. This is the notice required under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. The version changes when what we do with your data changes; the date changes when we correct or clarify the wording.

The short version

Your number plate is the only thing a stranger ever sees. We do not show them your name, phone number or email. Conversations delete themselves 24 hours after the last message. We can read message content if someone reports abuse — this app is not end-to-end encrypted, and we will not pretend otherwise.

Who we are

VehiCall is operated as a Data Fiduciary under the DPDP Act. Contact: developers_a@evenforce.com.

What we collect, and why

When you create an account

When you add a vehicle

Photos of your vehicle

When you verify ownership

When someone contacts you

Your profile

If you ask for updates

There is one unticked box in your profile: “Send me occasional updates about VehiCall”. Tick it and we may email or text you about the product; leave it and we will not.

If you allow calls or video calls

Calls do not work like messages, and the difference matters enough to spell out. A message travels through our server. A call does not: once it connects, audio and video flow directly between the two devices.

This changed on 28 July 2026. Before that date calls connected the two devices directly and each side could see the other’s IP address; we said so here at the time. They are now relayed, and the addresses are not exchanged.

Looking a number plate up

Being reachable by your number plate

Once you verify a vehicle, another verified owner who types its full number plate can see that vehicle and message you. This is on unless you switch it off.

What they see: the number plate they already typed, and your vehicle’s make, model and colour, plus a photograph of the vehicle if you added one. They never see your name, your phone number or your email address — in either direction, at any point.

It is deliberately narrow, and the limits are part of the design rather than settings we happened to choose:

To turn it off: open the vehicle, then Settings, and switch off “findable”. It is per vehicle, so you can leave one car reachable and another not. Switching it off stops the disclosure immediately; it does not delete past conversations, which expire on their own.

What we do not collect

We do not ask for your phone number, address, gender, date of birth, or a photograph of you. We do not store your precise location. We do not track you across other websites, and there is no advertising here.

Encryption: what is and is not true

This app is not end-to-end encrypted.

Your messages are encrypted while travelling to and from our server, and the server itself is protected — but we hold the keys. That means our staff are technically able to read message content, and will do so when investigating a report of abuse or when legally compelled.

We are telling you this because other messaging apps do offer end-to-end encryption, and you may reasonably assume this one does. It does not.

How long we keep things

WhatHow long
Messages in an active conversationUntil it ends
A conversationEnds 24 hours after the last message, then deleted
Verification photoKept while it is needed to settle who owns the vehicle, then deleted by us. Deleted at once if you close your account. An undecided submission is deleted after 30 days.
Photos of your vehicleUntil you delete them, or until you delete the vehicle
Record that a decision was madeKept, so ownership disputes can be resolved
Contact records (who, when, which reason)90 days
Abuse reports1 year, or until the case is closed plus 90 days
Document expiry datesUntil you delete them, until you delete the vehicle, or immediately when you switch document reminders off
Scanned copies of documentsDeleted with their date, when you remove the scan, when you delete the vehicle, or immediately when you switch document reminders off
Details we looked up about a plate you ownRefreshed every 90 days; deleted when you delete the vehicle, or immediately when you switch the registry lookup off
Your accountUntil you delete it

Deletion is carried out by an automated job, not by someone remembering.

Backups, and the delay they add. We take a backup every night so that a disk failure cannot lose the documents you asked us to keep. That backup contains whatever was in the system at the time, so something you delete today can survive in a backup for up to 30 days before it is rotated out and destroyed. Backups are encrypted at rest, are never used to serve the app, and are only ever opened to recover from a failure.

Who else sees your data

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. We will disclose data if legally compelled, and will tell you unless we are barred from doing so.

Where your data lives

On servers in India.

Your rights

For the ones that are not self-serve, or if anything above does not work, email developers_a@evenforce.com.

Children

You must be 18 or over to hold an account. Someone contacting you by scanning a sticker does not need an account, and we do not knowingly build a profile of them.

Grievance Officer

If something here is wrong, or we have not done what this notice says, this is the person responsible for putting it right.
